PERURI wins the Popular Companies–Security Technology award at IPRA 2026, highlighting Indonesia’s efforts to strengthen trusted digital security and public services.

JAKARTA — Perum Percetakan Uang Republik Indonesia (PERURI) has received the Popular Companies–Security Technology award at the Indonesia Public Relations Awards (IPRA) 2026), marking another milestone in the state-owned company’s transformation from a traditional security-printing institution into a broader high-security technology company.

The recognition, as reported by SINDOnews, highlights PERURI’s efforts to strengthen corporate reputation and public communication while expanding its role in digital security. The award was presented during the 7th Anniversary Indonesia Public Relations Summit 2026 in Jakarta and received by PERURI’s Head of Corporate Communication & TJSL, Evan Septantyo Nugroho.

For Indonesia, the development is significant beyond corporate communications. PERURI’s transformation is taking place as governments and businesses across Southeast Asia increasingly depend on digital identities, electronic documents, secure transactions and integrated public-service platforms.

The shift also illustrates how traditional institutions with long-standing expertise in authentication and document security can adapt their capabilities to the requirements of the digital economy.

From Security Printing to Digital Trust

PERURI has more than five decades of experience in high-security technology. Its institutional expertise was initially associated with banknotes and security documents, but the company has progressively expanded its capabilities as digitalisation changed the nature of security threats and authentication requirements.

Since 2019, PERURI has expanded its business from security printing into digital security. Its current business pillars include Banknote Printing Technology, Security Printing Technology, Digital Security Technology and Government Technology.

This evolution is particularly relevant to Southeast Asia, where digital transformation is increasingly shaping government services, financial transactions, commerce and cross-border business activity.

Digital transformation creates opportunities for greater efficiency, but it also increases the importance of trusted authentication. The ability to verify whether a document, identity or transaction is genuine becomes essential when physical interaction is replaced by digital processes.

Trust as a Strategic Asset

PERURI’s digital-security portfolio includes electronic signatures, digital seals, electronic certificates, authentication technologies and electronic stamps. The company says these solutions are designed to protect document integrity and reduce the risks of unauthorised modification and counterfeiting.

The company is also Indonesia’s state-owned Electronic Certification Provider, or PSrE, providing legally recognised digital signatures and digital seals under the country’s regulatory framework.

Such capabilities demonstrate why trust has become a strategic issue rather than simply a communications objective.

For governments and businesses operating increasingly through digital channels, a trusted digital infrastructure can support more efficient transactions while reducing uncertainty surrounding authentication and document validity.

This issue is particularly important in ASEAN, where digital economies are developing at different speeds but increasingly depend on interoperable digital services and secure cross-border interactions.

A Role in Indonesia’s Digital Government

PERURI’s role has expanded beyond commercial technology services.

The Indonesian government appointed PERURI as GovTech Indonesia, known as INA DIGITAL, under Presidential Regulation No. 82 of 2023. The company is tasked with supporting an integrated ecosystem for Indonesian government digital services and the implementation of the Electronic-Based Government System, or SPBE.

The assignment demonstrates the level of institutional trust placed in PERURI’s security and technology capabilities.

According to the company, INA DIGITAL is intended to support infrastructure and applications for government administration, data management and public services, with an emphasis on efficiency, transparency and compliance with applicable standards and regulations.

From an ASEAN perspective, Indonesia’s experience is relevant because digital government has become an increasingly important component of public-sector modernisation throughout the region.

The challenge is not simply to digitise existing processes, but to make digital services secure, reliable and accessible to citizens.

Communication and Public Confidence

The IPRA 2026 recognition also highlights another dimension of digital transformation: communication.

Technology can be highly sophisticated, but its value can be undermined if citizens, businesses and government institutions do not understand how it works or why it can be trusted.

PERURI has therefore placed corporate communication alongside its broader transformation agenda. Communicating its evolution helps stakeholders understand that the company is no longer defined solely by conventional printing activities.

Instead, its positioning is increasingly centred on high-security technology, authentication, digital identity and government technology.

The award therefore reflects an important principle for state-owned enterprises operating in strategic sectors: reputation must be supported by tangible capabilities and consistent communication.

Supporting a Wider Digital Economy

PERURI’s digital products are already positioned for use across multiple sectors, including government, education, public services, state-owned enterprises, insurance, financial technology, e-commerce, telecommunications and banking.

This broad market relevance shows how digital security is becoming embedded in the wider economy.

For businesses, secure electronic signatures and document authentication can reduce administrative friction. For public institutions, trusted digital identity and documentation can help support more efficient services. For citizens, the objective is to make digital interactions more secure and reliable.

The economic implications extend beyond individual transactions.

When trusted digital infrastructure becomes more widely adopted, it can help create conditions for greater efficiency, innovation and participation in the digital economy.

The ASEAN Context

Across ASEAN, governments are pursuing different approaches to digital government, electronic identification and data protection. The common challenge is to combine innovation with public trust.

Indonesia’s experience with PERURI provides one example of how an established state-owned institution can evolve into a technology organisation while retaining its core expertise in authenticity and security.

PERURI describes its role as supporting the protection of currency, important documents, and physical and digital identities. Its current strategy therefore links traditional security expertise with the requirements of a more digitally connected economy.

This model may become increasingly relevant as ASEAN economies seek to strengthen digital public infrastructure while maintaining confidence among citizens and businesses.

For regional cooperation, secure digital systems can also become an important foundation for future cross-border services.

International Standards and Capability

Trust in digital security also depends on technical and organisational standards.

PERURI maintains a range of certifications related to quality management, environmental responsibility, occupational safety and information security. The company says these internationally recognised certifications form part of its commitment to operational excellence and compliance with global standards.

Such standards become increasingly important when organisations seek to operate across jurisdictions.

For a company with ambitions extending beyond traditional domestic services, demonstrating compliance and reliability can strengthen confidence among potential partners and institutional stakeholders.

In this respect, the development of PERURI reflects a wider trend: security providers are increasingly required to combine technological capability, regulatory compliance and institutional credibility.

Beyond the Award

The IPRA 2026 award should therefore be viewed as part of a broader transformation rather than as an isolated corporate achievement.

PERURI is simultaneously strengthening its digital-security portfolio, supporting government digitalisation through INA DIGITAL and developing solutions for businesses and public institutions.

The next challenge will be maintaining this momentum while ensuring that technological innovation continues to be accompanied by strong governance, security and user confidence.

For ASEAN economies, these issues will become increasingly important as more economic and public-sector activity moves online.

Indonesia’s experience demonstrates that digital transformation is not only about adopting new technology. It is also about building the institutional trust required for people and organisations to use that technology with confidence.

A New Chapter for PERURI

PERURI’s recognition at IPRA 2026 comes at an important stage in the company’s development.

Its history provides a strong foundation in authentication and high-security technology, while its digital portfolio gives the company a platform to participate in Indonesia’s next phase of economic and government transformation.

The company’s role as INA DIGITAL further expands that contribution into the public sector.

For Southeast Asia, the broader lesson is clear: digital transformation will require institutions capable of combining innovation with security, regulation and trust.

PERURI’s journey from security printing to digital security and government technology offers an Indonesian example of that evolution.

The IPRA 2026 recognition may celebrate communication and reputation, but the larger story is about something more fundamental — how trust can become a technological and institutional asset in an increasingly digital ASEAN.
