Bangkok – Thailand continues to shine on the global tourism stage as Chiang Mai is crowned the No. 1 City in Asia in the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2025. The northern city, long celebrated for its blend of cultural depth and natural beauty, also ranked No. 2 in the world, earning international praise for its charm, hospitality, and vibrant experiences.
With a Reader Score of 91.94, Chiang Mai topped the list of Asia’s 15 Best Cities, with Travel + Leisure readers lauding the city’s “super cordial people and amazing food.” Highlights noted by voters include ancient temples like Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, bustling night markets, lush mountain landscapes, and ethical elephant experiences—making it a standout for responsible and immersive travel.
One reader remarked that Chiang Mai was “a great place to see the elephants and to feed and wash them,” referencing the city’s growing eco-tourism initiatives that place animal welfare and conservation at the forefront.
Meanwhile, Bangkok, Thailand’s dynamic capital, maintained its reputation as a leading global destination. With a Reader Score of 91.34, it ranked No. 3 in Asia and No. 4 globally. Described by a respondent as “the most fascinating, beautiful, and exciting city,” Bangkok continues to attract visitors with its world-class street food, iconic temples, modern infrastructure, and energetic nightlife.
Thailand’s success wasn’t limited to cities. In the Best Islands in Asia category, Phuket and Ko Samui secured 4th and 5th places, respectively. Phuket earned a Reader Score of 89.47, recognised for its stunning beaches, luxury resorts, and water activities, while Ko Samui, with a score of 89.31, was praised for its tropical atmosphere and serene coastal charm.
Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), expressed gratitude for the recognition:

The Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2025 reflect the opinions of nearly 180,000 readers, who cast over 657,000 votes across categories. Destinations are rated based on criteria including sights and landmarks, culture, food, friendliness, shopping, and overall value—areas where Thai cities and islands continue to deliver consistently high scores.
