President Prabowo Subianto Awarded the Prestigious Darjah Kerabat Johor in Malaysia

During an official state visit to Malaysia on Monday, January 27, 2025, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, was formally bestowed with the Darjah Kerabat Johor Yang Amat Dihormati Pangkat Pertama (D.K I Johor). The honor was presented personally by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, at the National Palace of Malaysia.

The Darjah Kerabat Johor is one of the highest honors conferred by the Johor royal family. Established on July 31, 1886 by Sultan Abu Bakar, the award reflects the core value of unity through the royal motto “Muafakat Itu Berkat” — which translates as “Concord is a Blessing.” It is traditionally reserved for Malay royalty, royal family members, and selected foreign heads of state who have significantly contributed to fostering bilateral relations.

The D.K I Johor holds deep historical and symbolic significance. It features a gold collar inscribed with the name of Sultan Abu Bakar in Jawi script, representing the glory and unity of the Johor Sultanate. The accompanying nine-pointed star signifies leadership, honor, and collective harmony — principles upheld by the state of Johor for over a century.

With this award, President Prabowo joins a distinguished list of international recipients, including Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien (1960), Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah (1969), former Indonesian President Soeharto (1990), and King Hamad bin Isa al Khalifa of Bahrain (2017). The inclusion of President Prabowo further reflects Indonesia’s longstanding importance as a regional partner to Malaysia.

This ceremonial gesture underscores the close and enduring diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Malaysia, which continue to evolve through strategic cooperation in sectors such as defense, trade, and cultural exchange. The honor also reinforces Indonesia’s role as a key stabilizing force and collaborator in the Southeast Asian geopolitical sphere.

More than a diplomatic tradition, the award serves as a powerful symbol of mutual trust, shared heritage, and forward-looking leadership. As both nations look toward a more integrated and resilient regional future, this recognition strengthens the ties that bind their people and their visions for progress.
