Bangkok – Bangkok has been named the world’s best city for Gen Z in 2025, according to Time Out’s latest survey that highlights what matters most to young people under 30. The ranking, drawn from over 18,500 global participants and refined with expert insights, reflects a generational shift in what defines a truly great city.

The Thai capital claimed the top spot for several compelling reasons. An impressive 84 percent of Bangkok’s under-30 residents reported being happy with their lives, and more than in any other city, locals said they found it easy to make new friends. For Gen Z, who value social connections as much as opportunity, this sense of belonging is a crucial advantage.

Affordability was another key factor that boosted Bangkok’s score. Seventy-one percent of respondents under 30 rated the city as budget-friendly, a significant edge for young people balancing career growth with lifestyle choices. Add to that the city’s renowned street food, cultural landmarks, and vibrant neighborhoods, and Bangkok stands out as both accessible and exciting.

Bangkok also featured prominently in Time Out’s global roundup for nightlife, reaffirming its reputation as a hub where energy and diversity collide. From bustling markets and rooftop bars to traditional festivals, the city offers a dynamic mix that continues to attract young residents and international visitors alike.

Melbourne secured second place in the ranking, with 96 percent of its young residents praising the city’s art and cultural scene. Known for its inclusivity and creative energy, Melbourne has long been a magnet for Gen Z and millennials seeking a balance of career opportunities and cultural vibrancy.

Cape Town landed in third, celebrated for its natural beauty, affordability, and reputation as an “exciting” place to live. Young residents highlighted its balance of outdoor adventure and lively urban culture, making it one of the most attractive cities for those under 30.

Together, the results reflect a broader generational lens: Gen Z is redefining what makes a city livable, placing emphasis on happiness, affordability, creativity, and social connection. And in 2025, Bangkok leads the way as the global capital of youthful energy and opportunity.
